About This Lesson
Romeo and Juliet: Modern Regrets and Wishes is a creative language activity that brings Shakespeare’s famous tragedy into the world of modern teenagers, social media, messages, and misunderstandings. Students read an imaginary chat-style conversation between Romeo and Juliet, discuss key questions about technology, relationships, family conflict, and responsibility, and practise grammar structures for wishes, regrets, and criticism of past actions.
The activity combines literature, speaking, grammar practice, creative writing, and critical thinking. Students finish by creating their own dialogues and imagining wishes or regrets from the perspective of celebrities, historical figures, or fictional characters.
