#8 AFT Staff Lesson 2025

About This Lesson

Online safety for kids starts with the right conversation -- and this lesson makes it easy. Designed for grades 2-4, this complete resource teaches seven essential digital safety rules through whole-class discussion and hands-on activities. Students explore rules like protecting personal information, recognizing unsafe situations, and being kind online -- then choose their favorites and create their own personalized safety plan to keep or display. The lesson includes a fill-in-the-blank worksheet for individual or group practice and an optional take-home activity where students interview a trusted adult about their own online habits. Everything is ready to use: no prep beyond printing, fits a 45-55 minute class period, and aligns to CCSS ELA and ISTE standards.

Supplemental materials include:

  • My Online Safety Tips Worksheet
  • Online Safety: Optional Reflection Activity
  • Printable Lesson PDF
