About This Webinar

Educators and school professionals give so much of themselves—often without realizing the toll it takes. In this wellness webinar, you’ll take an honest look at compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress, two common but often overlooked challenges affecting teachers, school staff, and school-based health professionals.

Dr. Kerry A. Schwanz, professor of psychology at Coastal Carolina University and former South Carolina school psychologist, will share research-based insights and practical strategies to help you recognize the warning signs, restore your balance, and rebuild resilience. Join us to learn how caring for yourself—without guilt—can help you maintain the energy, steadiness, and compassion your students and patients need.

Note: Each webinar in the 2026 Wellness Series is a stand-alone professional development webinar; you can watch one or all and in any particular order that suits your needs. Register now.

For me the advice was very good, but I could not see the slides or polls she referred to. I was able to see Dr. Schwantz and the moderator when he came on, but I could not see the links, chat, or comic that I think others saw on screen. The information, however, was very helpful.

Dr. Schwanz shared information that was extremely helpful. This year I seem to be running on empty and I needed someone to help replenish me and she gave me some tools, some I already had and others I was able to add. Thank you. I will implement these to help start off my summer so that my upcoming year will be revitalized. Thank you, again.

I worked in child care for over twenty years. I am in my seventh year at the high school level, and I have never heard the term 'Compassion Fatigue' before this Webinar.

Dr. Schwanz's lesson was excellent. The presentation was enlightening and very informative. I was engaged the entire time, and from the chat section, so were many others. We were interacting with each other. The shared information on signs of compassion fatigue and strategies to avoid or overcome it was extremely helpful. Care without depleting oneself will go a long way in this field.

Thank you for having this.
