About This Lesson

This lesson explores the true story of Erin Brockovich, a determined single mother who helped expose a major environmental contamination case despite having no formal legal training.

Students will learn how Brockovich investigated a corporation’s role in polluting a community’s water supply, leading to one of the largest legal settlements in U.S. history. Through her story, students will examine themes of environmental justice, persistence, and the power of individual action, and consider how one person can challenge powerful systems and create meaningful change.
